On this edition of Next on the Tee I am joined by Bobby Nichols, 12 time winner on the PGA Tour including the 1964 PGA Championship plus PGA & LPGA Class A Teaching Professional Rhonda Ferguson.

Mr. Nichols shared his story about starting out as a caddy at age 9 and being the personal caddy for Dodgers legend Pee Wee Reese. He recounted his victory in the 1964 PGA Championship over Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan. We also talked about the influence Dr. Cary Middlecoff had on him, his victories at the 1962 St. Petersburg Open, the 1973 Westchester Classic and getting a second life in golf when the Senior Tour started.

Rhonda shared her amazing story of not picking up a golf club until she was a freshman in high school and 4 years later making the golf team at the University of Florida which was the 2 time defending national champions. She talked about learning the game from Kevin Maris, Roger Maris’ son. We also talked about her teaching style and how she keeps junior players engaged by making golf practice fun, and the golf course she now owns in Jacksonvile, River Bend Golf Links, which has a motto “No Tee Times, No Dress Code, Just Come Have Fun.
