HANAHAN, S.C. – Senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) had the lone score under-par for Penn State during the final round of the Cougar Classic on Tuesday morning as the Nittany Lions finished the week 13th in the 17-team field.

Penn State concluded the tournament with an 8-over, 296, in the final round dropping one spot from where it began the day finishing the week with a score of 880 (16-over).

No. 18 Arkansas and No. 15 Baylor duked it out to the wire carding rounds of 12-under and 14-under, respectively, on Tuesday with the Razorbacks finishing one shot clear of the Bears at 23-under for the week. No. 21 Florida (13-under), No. 19 Georgia (12-under) finished third and fourth while North Carolina and UCF tied for fifth at 3-under for the championship.

Willis climbed seven spots from where she began the day finishing the week tied for 24th after carding her second-consecutive 1-under, 71. The senior concluded the week with an even-par score of 216 and was the highest Big Ten finisher in the field, one-stroke better than Michigan State’s Valentina Rossi.

Junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) finished the tournament tied for 36th at 3-over, 219, following a 1-over, 73, in the final round.

Freshman Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied a round of 3-over, 75, on Tuesday while sophomore Victoria Tip-Aucha (Vienna, Va.) and junior Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) shot identical scores of 5-over, 77, in the final round.

“I’m honestly a little disappointed with our closing round, I thought we could do better,” mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre. “Obviously it was a strong field top to bottom so we did beat some tough schools and I am happy about that, but I know we could have chased a few more.”

Penn State will travel to Boston College Intercollegiate in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts next Monday and Tuesday.
