BRIDGEPORT, W.V. –

Junior Patrick Sheehan’s second-place finish led four Nittany Lions in the top 10 and Penn State secured third in a tight team race as the Mountaineer Invitational came to a close Tuesday.

Penn State shot a 3-under, 285, in the final round Tuesday to finish at 7-under, 857, for the tournament. The tightly-packed team race saw the Nittany Lions finish just two strokes behind first-place #23 NC State (9-under, 855) and one stroke behind second-place host West Virginia (8-under, 856) in the 12-team field.

Sheehan collected his third top-five finish of the season and fourth-straight top-10 finish in yet another impressive performance. The Doylestown, Pa. native fired a 4-under, 68, in Tuesday’s final 18 holes to finish the three-round tournament at 10-under, 206. The 206 sets a new career-low score on a par-72 course and the junior has finished in the top 10 of every tournament played this fall.

Graduate student Lou Olsakovsky finished tied for fourth after saving his best golf for the final round. Olsakovsky fired a 4-under, 68, Tuesday to finish the tournament at 5-under, 211.

Graduate student James McHugh and junior Jimmy Meyers both finished in the top 10 while playing as individuals. McHugh carded a 3-under, 69, Tuesday to finish at 4-under, 212, and tied for sixth place. Meyers also shot a 3-under, 69, in the final round and finished at 3-under, 213, to place tied for eighth.

Freshman Jake Griffin was the fifth Nittany Lion in the top 20 as the rookie tied for 18th at 3-over, 219, following a 2-over, 74, in Tuesday’s final 18 holes.

Sophomore James Allen tied for 25th, finishing at 5-over, 221. Junior Ben Smith, playing as an individual, finished tied for 41st (9-over, 225), while freshman Morgan Lofland placed tied for 56th (14-over, 230).

Penn State now turns its attention to its final tournament of the fall season next weekend when the Nittany Lions travel to the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Sunday through Tuesday.
