Florida State, Wake Forest Tied for Team Lead After Day One at ACC Women’s Golf Championship

– Following day one of the 2022 ACC Women’s Golf Championship, Florida State and Wake Forest are tied for the team lead, each with an 8-under-par total 568 following the first two rounds of stroke play at The Reserve Golf Club.

For the second consecutive year, the ACC Championship features 36 holes of stroke play on day one, followed by a third round on Friday to determine the individual champion. The top four teams after Friday will advance to Saturday’s match play semifinals, and the winners will meet Sunday in the championship match.  

Florida State (-8), Wake Forest (-8) and Duke (-1) are the three teams under par after two rounds of action. NC State and Virginia Tech (+9) are tied for fourth, followed by Clemson (+11), Virginia and Louisville (+14), North Carolina (+16), Miami (+19), Boston College (+24) and Notre Dame (+38).

Duke’s Phoebe Brinker tied the ACC Championship record for the lowest round with a 7-under-par 65 to match Florida State’s Kristin Tamulis’ score from 2003. The sophomore shot a 2-under-par 70 in the first round to sit 9-under following the first two rounds to lead the individual field. North Carolina’s Krista Junkkari is currently second (-5), while NC State’s Lea Klimentova is third (-4). Wake Forest’s Virunpat Olankitkunchai and Rachel Kuehn are tied for fourth at 3-under.

Day one was highlighted by a hole-in-one from Louisville’s Carly Haines on No. 7.

Friday’s third round begins at 9 a.m., spectators are permitted and no ticket is required.
