The Nebraska men’s golf team returns to action April 16-17 for the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
The University of Iowa hosts the two-day, 54-hole event at Finkbine Golf Course. The field will tee off on the par-72, 7,157-yard layout at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. The 14 teams will play the final round on Sunday with another 8:30 a.m. (CT) start.
Nebraska joins Minnesota and Iowa as Big Ten teams in a 14-team field with a strong Midwestern flavor, including Cincinnati, Creighton, Drake, Illinois State, Iowa State, James Madison, Kansas, Kansas State, Northern Illinois, South Dakota State and UMKC.
Tom Westenberger (Wuppertal, Germany) will lead Nebraska’s lineup at Iowa. The senior has been a constant for the Big Red, playing in every lineup for the 2021-22 season. His top finish of the spring season came at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate (March 5-6), where he posted a 220 (+4) to tie for 15th. Seniors Caleb Badura (Aurora, Neb.) and Branden Meyer (Gilbert, Ariz.) will play out of the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the Huskers. Meyer notched his career-best round late last month with a 69 in the third round at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. Badura finished within the top 25 individually at Desert Mountain by posting a three-round score of 223.
Senior Mark Foelbaek (Jelling, Denmark) and sophomore Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) round out Nebraska’s weekend lineup. Scheve made his first lineup appearance of the spring last weekend at the Stitch Intercollegiate, which was highlighted by his hole-in-one on No. 6 in the opening round. Reed Malleck (York, Neb.) will enter the invitational playing as an individual. The sophomore played as an individual last weekend and put up a one-under-par 71 in the opening round.
