 – For the second consecutive year, a Duke women’s golfer won the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship Individual Title as sophomore Phoebe Brinker claimed the 2022 championship Friday afternoon at The Reserve Golf Club. Brinker’s three-day 10-under par total of 206 is tied for the second-lowest in ACC Championship history along with last year’s champion and fellow Blue Devil Gina Kim.

Brinker is the 15th Duke player to win the ACC individual title in the history of the event. The win was the first of her collegiate career.

In Saturday’s match play semifinals, No. 2 Florida State will face No. 3 Duke in the first semifinal and No. 1 Wake Forest will face No. 4 seed Virginia in the second semifinal. Due to projected inclement weather, Saturday’s semifinals will begin at 8 a.m. with the second semifinal to follow. The winners of the two matches will meet for the ACC Championship on Sunday.

Duke’s Erica Shepherd (-4, 212) finished second in the individual competition, followed by a four-way tie for third place at one-under-par 215 with Louisville’s Kendall Griffin, Virginia’s Amanda Sambach and Wake Forest’s Virunpat Olankitkunchai.

Virginia entered the day five shots behind NC State for the fourth and final match play position, but quickly rallied to overtake the Wolfpack on the front nine. Jennifer Cleary and Celeste Valinho shot even par rounds of 72 to lead the Cavaliers and help the squad advance to the match play semifinals.

Saturday’s match play begins at 8 a.m., spectators are allowed to attend and no ticket is required.
