Penn State Finishes Tied for Fourth at Kepler Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Penn State men’s golf team finished tied for fourth in a strong 13-team field after the final round of Ohio State’s Kepler Intercollegiate at the Columbus Country Club Sunday afternoon.
 
The Nittany Lions shot 3-over, 291, as a team in Sunday’s third and final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 7-under, 857. No. 20 Illinois (30-under, 834), No. 35 Ohio State (17-under, 847) and No. 47 Northwestern (9-under, 855) took home the top three team spots, while Penn State was tied with Kent State for fourth place.  
 
Graduate student Lou Olsakovsky was Penn State’s highest finisher, finishing tied for eighth at 4-under, 212. He carded a 5-over, 77, in Sunday’s round. Olsakovsky secured the second top-10 finish of his final season his sixth top-15 finish of 2021-22.
 
Junior Patrick Sheehan carded Penn State’s best third-round score with a 2-under, 70, on Sunday. Sheehan finished tied for 15th at 1-under, 215. It marks his eighth top-15 finish of the 2021-22 season.
 
Junior Jimmy Meyers was the third Nittany Lion to finish in the top 20 when he placed tied for 19th at 1-over, 217. He carded a 5-over, 77, in Sunday’s final round.
 
Sophomore James Allen and freshman Jake Griffin both shot an even 72 in the third round. Allen wrapped up the weekend at 3-over, 219, to finish tied for 34th, while Griffin finished tied for 44th at 5-over, 221.
 
Junior Ben Smith, playing as an individual, carded a 4-over, 76, Sunday and finished tied for 38th at 4-over, 220.
 
The Nittany Lions now turn their attention to next weekend’s Big Ten Championships. The 2022 championship event will be held at The Pete Dye Course at French Lick in French Lick, Ind. Friday through Sunday.
