Cougs Have Two Golfers Card Under Par on Day Two of the Pac-12 Championships


SAMMAMISH, Wash. — The Washington State men’s golf team had two golfers card under par in the third round of the 2022 Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championships Tuesday, April 26, as sophomore Jaden Cantafio shot 2-under 69, while redshirt senior Max Sekulic ended the round at 1-under 70.

The performances by Cantafio and Sekulic highlight a strong second day of play at the Pac-12 Championships for Washington State. The Cougars shot 8-over 363 in the third round to move into a tie for 10th on the team leaderboard with Arizona. WSU begins the tournament’s fourth round only four strokes behind Oregon State for ninth place.

Cantafio moved up a remarkable 24 spots on the player leaderboard in the third round, as he ended his day tied for 22nd. The sophomore birdied three of his first four holes to get his day started and collected one more on the back nine to end his day at 2-under 69. Cantafio heads into the final round of the Pac-12 Tournament at 4-over 217.

Sekulic heads into tomorrow’s finale in a tie for 19th after carding 3-over 216 through his first three rounds of play at the Aldarra Golf Club. The redshirt senior birdied his final hole of the afternoon to end the round at 1-under 70. He tied Cantafio with a team-best four birdies in Tuesday’s third round.

Sophomore Preston Bebich and freshman Peter Jung each shot 2-over 74 in the third round of the Pac-12 Championships. Bebich heads into the final round in a tie for 47th at 10-over 223. Meanwhile, Jung goes into the fourth round tied with teammate Pono Yanagi for 56th, as each WSU golfer has carded 13-over 226 in the tournament.

Host Washington takes a seven-stroke lead over Arizona State into the final round of the 2022 Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championships. The No. 8-ranked Huskies have carded 5-under 1060 at the end of three rounds. Stanford’s Barclay Brown holds a one-stroke lead over Washington’s Noah Woolsey going into Wednesday. Brown has shot 10-under 203 through three rounds.

Washington State opens the final round of the 2022 Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championships Wednesday, April 27. The Cougars tee off between 8:47 a.m. and 9:47 a.m. PT. Fans can follow all the action…
