Huskers Close Out B1G Championship


Senior Mark Foelbaek led the way for the Nebraska men’s golf team at the 2022 Big Ten Conference Championship in French Lick, Ind., over the weekend.

The Huskers, who managed a three-round team total of 944, played their best golf on Friday during the opening round on The Pete Dye Course with a 304 team total. Sophomore Reed Malleck made his first lineup appearance of the spring season and carded a 74 (+2), NU’s best score of the round. Foelbaek (Jelling, Denmark) managed a 75 (+3), while senior Caleb Badura contributed a 76 (+4) on the par-72, 7,131-yard layout.

Senior Branden Meyer shot a 76 (+4) on Saturday to highlight Nebraska’s second round. The team put up a 316 Saturday, followed by a 324 in the Sunday’s final round.

As Nebraska’s top individual finisher, Foelbaek tied for 56th. Badura was NU’s No. 2 finisher with 54-hole score of 237 to tie for 61st. Northwestern’s David Nyfjall claimed medalist honors, firing a 215 (-1) after shooting a 68 (-4) on Friday. Adrien Dumont de Chassart was the tournament runner-up with a 216 (E), leading the way for Illinois after shooting the best round of the tournament with a 64 (-8) on Friday.

Illinois won the Big Ten Championship with an 885 (+21), including a 286 in the first round. Michigan State finished one stroke behind in second at 886, powered by a 276 in the opening round.
