NC State Wraps Up Day One of NCAA Stillwater Regional

STILLWATER, Okla. – The NC State women’s golf team wrapped up day one of competition at the NCAA Stillwater Regional on Monday, finishing the opening round in seventh place amongst some of the top programs in the country at Oklahoma State’s Karsten Creek Golf Club.

Despite a lack of regional experience from the Wolfpack, with the only appearance from NC State’s five starts coming in 2019 by Lea Klimentova, the team finished ahead of two nationally-ranked programs and sits just three spots out of an NCAA Championship berth with two rounds of competition remaining.

NC State was led by sophomore Isabel Amezcua, who birdied three of her final four holes to close with a 5-over score of 77, good enough to tie for 25th place.

One shot back of Amezcua at 78 (+6) were three Wolfpack golfers, including Lauren Olivares Leon, Inja Fric, and Natalie Armbruester, who completed NC State’s list of four counted scores.

The Wolfpack lineup was rounded out by Klimentova, a senior, who fired a 9-over 81.

As it currently stands, Baylor leads the field after a day-one score of 292 (+4), and Baylor’s Britta Snyder leads all individuals after being the lone participant out of 66 competitors to break 70 with a three-under score of 69.

Monday proved to be a tough scoring day for all players, with Snyder serving as one of four golfers to fire a round under par.

NC State will be back in action on Tuesday for round two, paired with players from seventh-seeded Campbell and eighth-seeded Furman. Live stats will be available throughout the tournament on GolfStat.com.
