LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Entering the day in 10th place, the University of Louisville men’s golf team jumped up to seventh after the second day of the Norman Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club by shooting a 4-under 284.
Firing a 9-over-par 297 on Monday, the Cardinals positioned themselves to make a run at the cutoff spot by ending the round nine shots off the final position. Louisville’s 4-under on the afternoon was the third-best round of any of the regional teams.
After 36 holes, Auburn shot 12-under-par on Tuesday to overtake top-seeded Oklahoma for the top spot at the regional. The Tigers are the leaders at 20-under-par and the Sooners are in second place at 14-under. Texas and Mississippi are tied for third place at 8-under, while Utah sits in the final cutoff position at 4-under.
Three of the five Cardinals shot under par during the second round of action on Tuesday.
Junior Jiri Zuska paced the Cardinals with a 3-under 69 to move up into a tie for 18th place. The junior carded four birdies on the back nine holes to shoot 2-under and proceeded to register two more on the front to recover from his 3-over-par 75 on Monday.
Chris Francoeur moved into the top 10 after his round of 2-under-par 70. The graduate transfer is 3-under-par after 36 holes and is in position to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual.
After his opening round of 77, Max Kennedy responded with a 1-under 71 to move up to 36th and Nick Tenuta is in a tie for 48th place after shooting 74. Pierce Grieve, who subbed in on Tuesday, shot 77.
For Wednesday’s competition, Louisville will be paired San Diego State and Kansas State, teeing off at 9:55 a.m. ET on hole one.
