Cards Close Season with Seventh-Place Finish at Norman Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men’s golf team ended its season with a seventh-place finish Wednesday at the Norman Regional which was played on the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

The Cardinals carded a 2-over-290 on Wednesday to finish 11 shots off the spot needed to advance to the national championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., next week. UofL concluded the regional at 7-over-par after shooting 297-284-290=871 over the three days. Oklahoma, Auburn, Mississippi, Texas and Utah were the five teams to advance out the regional on Wednesday afternoon.

Entering the day nine shots back, the Cardinals closed within six shots on the day, but couldn’t quite catch the top five teams, which all finished under-par for the regional.

Senior Chris Francoeur ended his one-year stint with the Cardinals in impressive fashion by posting a top-15 finish. The Rhode Island transfer shot a 3-under- 213 (71-70-72) to place in a tie for 11th place overall. He had a slow start on the front nine by shooting 3-over-par but did respond on his final nine holes by carding a 3-under-par to end even on the day.

Jiri Zuska tied for 28th place after ending the regional at 4-over par. He shot 75-69-75=215 over the course of the tournament, while Max Kennedy tied for 34th after firing 77-71-73=221.  Nick Tenuta closed out his career by tying for 50th place after firing an 8-over 76-74-74=224, while Walker Franklin, who was re-inserted into the lineup, ended with a 1-under 71.

The Cards will bring back seven players next season, including Zuska, an All-ACC performer this season.
