Wildcats Win Bryan Regional Wire to Wire; Punch Ticket to Scottsdale

“I am incredibly proud of our entire program for accomplishing our key goals,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We set out at the beginning of the year with our sights set on Scottsdale and winning a very competitive regional on top of that is another feather in our cap. Hats off to our guys for maintaining focus and staying hungry throughout a long year to play some outstanding golf this week and send us through to NCAA Championships.”

Chase Sienkiewicz was Arizona’s top player for the week at 5-under, finishing in a tie for second and one stroke behind medalist Joe Highsmith of Pepperdine. Christian Banke gave the Wildcats a second top-10 finisher as he wrapped up his week in a tie for 10th at 2-under. Johnny Walker, a freshman from Chandler, posted three consecutive rounds of 72 to finished tied for 17th.

Traditions Golf Club played more difficult on Wednesday than the beginning of the week as Arizona’s find round of even par tied Pepperdine for the best round of the day. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead with a blistering 12-under opener on Monday and remained atop the leaderboards for virtually the entire week.

Arizona dominated the course’s longest holes with the top par-5 scores of the field at 16-under par. Banke and Sienkiewicz fueled the Cats’ statistical prowess by tying one another for third in par-5 scoring out of a field of 80 players. Sienkiewicz also posted low scores on par 4’s, capping his week in a tie for second as well in scoring. Chaz Aurilia was dialed in for Arizona on par 3’s, ending the week as the top player in par-3 scoring at 2-under.
