Mic Potter Selected to Furman Athletics 2022 Hall of Fame Class


GREENVILLE, S.C. – University of Alabama women’s golf head coach Mic Potter has been named to Furman University’s Athletic Hall of Fame, it was announced Tuesday.

Potter, who just completed his 17th season at the helm of the Crimson Tide, was the Paladins head women’s golf coach for 23 years, beginning in 1983 and lasting until he departed for Tuscaloosa in 2005. While there, he coached Furman to 16 NCAA Championship appearances, including a national runner-up finish in 1987.

  • Prior to arriving in Tuscaloosa, Potter coached at Furman from 1983-2005 – a total of 23 seasons
  • Guided the Paladins to 16 NCAA Championship appearances which included to six top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, along a runner-up finish in 1987
  • Led Furman to 12 top-15 NCAA Championships results
  • An eight-time SoCon Coach of the year selection
  • Coached Furman to 36 tournament titles
  • Individually, he coached 10 SoCon champions, 12 SoCon Players of the Year, four SoCon Freshmen of the Year and 38 All-SoCon selections
  • Led the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 2012
  • Coached the 2015 NCAA individual champion, Emma Talley – the only UA golfer in program history to achieve the feat
  • 2012 and 2018 WGCA National Coach of the Year
  • Six-time SEC Coach of the Year
  • Has won 64 career tournaments which is fourth-most among all NCAA women’s golf active coaches
  • Has led Alabama to 16 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances – reaching it every season in which the event was held since arriving at the Capstone
  • Inducted into the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994
