Golfweek 2021-22 college golf coaches, players of the year

The 2021-22 college golf season was one to remember.

Freshman phenoms came ready to play, so much so that they swept the individual national titles. At the women’s NCAA Championship, the top-two programs dueled for a national title, while on the men’s side, the top eight teams all advanced to match play, setting up a thrilling finish.

Now that the dust has settled on the season, it’s time to hand out some awards before players begin their summer amateur schedules and coaches hit the recruiting trail. Below you’ll find Golfweek’s 2021-22 college golf coaches and players of the year, as well as the previous winners of each award.

Golfweek All-Americans: Men | Women

Women’s Coach of the Year: Dana Dormann, San Jose State

Under Dormann’s guidance the Spartans didn’t finish outside the top five all season and picked up five wins along the way, including three victories leading up to the NCAA Championship at the Silverado Showdown, Mountain West Championship and NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. San Jose State advanced to match play at the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history, and it was recently announced that Dormann had signed a four-year extension to remain as the head coach.

Women’s Player of the Year: Rose Zhang, Stanford

Could it be anyone else? Stanford’s freshman phenom Rose Zhang won the 2022 NCAA Championship for her fourth win of an impressive season that included four additional runner-up finishes and a worst finish of the year at T-10. The world’s No. 1 amateur and winner of the ANNIKA Award also sits atop the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings with a 66-9-1 record against the top 50.

Men’s Coach of the Year: John Fields, Texas

Fields earns this honor for the third time after his trio of Texan seniors led the Longhorns to the 2022 national championship, putting the finishing touches on three college careers that began as runners-up in 2019. Twin brothers Parker and Pierceson Coody were injured in a freak accident that put their final season alongside former world No. 1 Cole Hammer in jeopardy. Both returned late in the…
