East Lansing, Mich. – Six members of the Michigan State women’s golf team have been named Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, the organization announced this week.
The Spartans recognized were senior Valery Plata, junior Nina Rissi, sophomores Leila Raines and Valentina Rossi and freshmen Brooke Biermann and Katie Lu.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics as the minimum cumulative GPA for garnering the honor is 3.50.
The six members of the WGCA All-American Scholars team is the most in program history for the Spartans and it is the third-straight year the program has had at least five honorees. The honor is the fourth for Plata, who is majoring in supply chain management, and the second for both Raines and Rossi.
All six student-athletes were part of a Michigan State team that was selected to participate in the NCAA Regionals for the 22nd time since 1999, where the Spartans finished in fifth place at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
