East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State senior Troy Taylor II was one of 10 collegiate golfers selected to the inaugural All-America team by the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The BCGCA Awards honor black college golfers from all backgrounds across all divisions of college golf.
Taylor was one of 10 selected to the BCGCA All-America Team joined by Jeffrey Cunningham (Drexel), Javan Johnson (Taylor), Steve Kibare (Dalton State), Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa (Drexel), Gregory Odom (Howard), Quinn Riley (Duke), Kristopher Stiles (San Jose State), Kieron Van Wyk (College of Charleston) and Everett Whiten Jr. (Howard).
Taylor, who will be returning for his fifth season at MSU next year, finished fourth on the team in scoring average this past year at 72.59 and played in all 13 tournaments for the Spartans. He posted four top-20 finishes, including co-medalist honors at the Island Resort Collegiate with a 7-under par 209 and a tie for 10th place at the Gopher Invitational with a 3-under par 210.
The success has continued this summer for Taylor, who last week won the Columbus District Golf Association Amateur title in Ohio and followed that up with a 3-under par to in a qualifier for the U.S. Amateur.
Other awards presented include the Adrian Stills Award (Black College Golfer of the Year), HBCU Golfer of the Year, BCGCA and HBCU Outstanding Freshmen of the Year, BCGCA All-Freshmen Team, and BCGCA and HBCU Coaches of the Year.
