PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men’s and women’s golf teams are taking a trip to Morocco on August 15 for friendly international competition and clinics with the First Tee of Morocco.
Along with the competition and training programs, the trip will consist of cultural visits and city tours for both programs lasting until August 27. The men’s golf program will spend three days in Montreal, Canada on the way home from Morocco where they will continue friendly international competition starting on the 24th.
“We are super excited to send our golf program to compete in Morocco,” men’s golf head coach Rob Shutte said. “We are providing our student-athletes with a once in a lifetime international experience and we look forward to this trip improving our success on the golf course in the upcoming season.
“We also can’t wait to get to Canada to compete,” Shutte said. “Two of our eight players are from the country of Canada, and I am excited to bring the rest of our team to an important recruiting area of the world for Rutgers men’s golf.”
“We are excited to travel with the team to Morocco this summer,” said women’s head coach Kari Williams. “This is an incredible opportunity for our student-athletes to experience the local culture while playing and practicing at some of the country’s best golf courses. We are appreciative of everyone that made this foreign tour possible, and we are looking forward to exploring Morocco!”
Both programs will begin their trip staying in the city of Ifrane from the 15th until the 20th competing at Al Akhawayn University. The Scarlet Knights will compete at the Michliffen Golf Resort against the Morocco national teams.
RU golf will visit Ifrane city and take a tour of the city located in the Middle Atlas region of northern Morocco. On August 19th the programs will compete in a mixed game between Morocco, the USA, and the United Arab Emirates.
On August 20th, the team will visit the city of Volubilis, an excavated Roman city in Morocco, with historical ties to the Roman empire.
On August 21st the team will head to Rabat, the capital city of Morocco. The teams will take a cultural visit of the capital before a group of training sessions with Morocco Team B against the USA.
