UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Head coach Denise St. Pierre and the Penn State women’s golf team announced its 2022 fall schedule earlier this week. The Nittany Lions will compete in four tournaments this coming fall.
After beginning the 2021 fall season in rare fashion with the Nittany Lion Invitational in early September, Penn State returns to a more traditional schedule opening the year at Yeaman’s Hall in Hanahan, South Carolina for the 18th annual Cougar Classic on September 12-13.
Just four days later the Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley for the 46th annual Nittany Lion Invitational on September 17-18. The tournament will return to the Blue Course following last year’s celebration of 100 years of Penn State Golf which was held on the White Course.
Penn State takes the next week off before returning to competition on September 30 – October 2 at the fourth annual Evie Odom Invitational in Virginia Beach, Virginia, formerly the Princess Anne Invitational.
The Nittany Lions then conclude their fall slate in familiar fashion in late October at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, North Carolina on October 28-30.
Penn State returns a veteran group for the upcoming season led by graduate student Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) who will be using her additional fifth year granted by the NCAA due to the Covid-19 pandemic that altered the 2020-21 season.
Willis was second on the team last year in stroke average at 74.04 behind then-junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) at 73.77. Delavallade along with classmate Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) and then-freshman Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) started in all 11 events during the 2021-22 campaign while Willis missed just two tournaments due to injury. The four represent a strong, experienced core for Penn State.
