COLUMBUS, Ohio – Caley McGinty, who begins her Ohio State career this fall, has been selected to play for England Aug. 24-27 at the 2022 World Amateur Team Championships in France.
Teams in the 29th women’s championship are playing for the Espirito Santo Trophy.
Le Golf National (Albatros course) and Golf de Saint-Nom-La- Brèteche (Red Course) near Paris, will be the courses used for the championships. Le Golf National was the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup and will play host to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international amateur golf competition conducted by the International Golf Federation, which comprises 150 national governing bodies of golf in 147 countries, and 22 international professional tours and organizations conducting major championships.
Two other U.S. Collegiate golfers will team-up with McGinty and Team England at the event. Lottie Woad and Charlotte Heath round out the trio that will represent Team England. Both play for Florida State.
McGinty is no stranger to international competition. Just this summer she helped Team England win the 2022 European Ladies’ Team Championships with a 4-5-2.5 win over Team Italy July 9 at Conwy Golf Club in Wales. England defeated Wales (6.5-0.5) and Sweden (4.5-2.5) on its way to the championship.
She also was granted an exemption to play in the 2022 AIG Women’s Open in Muirfield, held last week in Scotland.
In addition, McGinty played in the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship July 20-23 in France.
Ohio State opens the 2022-23 schedule at the Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm event at the Championship GC at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque Sept. 12.
