Illini Pair Advances to Match Play at U.S. Amateur


PARAMUS, N.J. – University of Illinois’ rising fifth-year senior golfers Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Tommy Kuhl have punched their tickets through to match play at the 122nd U.S. Amateur, set to continue Wednesday with the Round of 64 at The Ridgewood Country Club.

The Illini duo not only made the cut down from 312 competitors to the top 64, but each posted a top-10 score through 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday.

Dumont de Chassart is tied for sixth with a two-round score of 140 (-1). His week began Monday with a 70 (-1) at Ridgewood, before shooting an even-par 70 at Arcola Country Club, the stroke-play co-host venue.

Kuhl played Round 1 at Arcola and shot a 2-over (72) on Monday, before firing an impressive 2-under 69 in Round 2 Tuesday at Ridgewood, to climb into a tie for ninth overall with an even-par 141.

Piercen Hunt also represented the Orange and Blue this week, but missed Tuesday’s cut with a two-round tally 154.

Dumont de Chassart and Kuhl now continue their pursuit of the prestigious Havemeyer Trophy in head-to-head, tournament-style matchups with rounds scheduled over the next five days, culminating iin Sunday’s 36-hole championship match.
