Trio of Michigan State Women’s Golfers to Tee Off in World Amateur

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State will be well-represented this week at the World Amateur Team Championships, which tee off on Wednesday, Aug. 24 and will be played through Saturday, Aug. 27.

Valery Plata will be playing for her native Colombia, Valentina Rossi will be representing Argentina and Nina Rissi is on the squad for Brazil, where she was born.

Conducted by the International Golf Federation (formerly the World Amateur Golf Council), which comprises the governing bodies of golf in 146 countries, the World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international tournament.

Each team has two or three players and plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72 hole) total is the team’s score for the championship.

Plata will tee off on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET), as Colombia plays alongside Denmark and the Republic of Ireland. She tees off on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. local time (6:30 a.m. ET).

It has been a busy time for Plata over the last month, as he has played in events in Paris (the LPGA Amundi Evian Championship), Scotland (the AIG Women’s Open), California (LPGA Q School) and now back in France all before returning to East Lansing for her final season with the Michigan State women’s team.

Rissi and Rossi will tee off within a half hour of each other on Wednesday. Rissi, with Brazil playing alongside Ukraine and Morocco, tees off at 1:23 p.m. local time on Wednesday (7:30 a.m. ET) and 9:28 a.m. on Thursday (3:28 a.m. ET).

Rossi and her teammates from Argentina will play with Finland and Iceland. She tees off on Wednesday at 12:50 p.m. (6:50 a.m. ET) and on Thursday at 8:55 a.m. (2:55 a.m. ET).
