Trio of Spartans Named to Big Ten Women’s Golfers to Watch List

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State women’s golfers Brooke Biermann, Valery Plata and Valentina Rossi have all been named to the Big Ten Women’s Golfers to Watch list, announced today (Aug. 31) by the conference office.

The Spartans, who played in an NCAA Regional for the 19th time in the last 22 years last season, open up the 2022-23 campaign on Sept. 12-13 (Mon.-Tues.) at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.

Biermann, who competed in the U.S. Women’s Amateur and advanced to the semifinals of the Women’s Western Amateur Championship over the summer, enjoyed a strong first season in East Lansing, posting a 73.94 scoring average that was second on the team and tying for the team lead in rounds played.

An All-Big Ten First Team selection in 2022, Plata returns for her fifth season on campus. Last year, she led the team with a 72.63 scoring average, the seventh-best single-season mark in program history. Plata, who won the Latin American Amateur last summer, played in two LPGA events over the summer and finished in second place at the first leg of LPGA Qualifying School in August.

Rossi, who played in the U.S. Women’s Amateur and was one of three MSU golfers to play in the World Amateur Team Championships in Paris, was third on the team with a 74.55 scoring average and tied for the team lead in rounds played (33).
