» With a second straight sub-par team tally (287, -1), Michigan posted an 860 (-4) fall opening tournament total to finish third at the Island Resort Intercollegiate at Sage Run.

BARK RIVER, Mich. — A career weekend individual performance from redshirt-sophomore Ben Hoagland and top 12 finishes from the starting duo of sophomore Hunter Thomson and junior Will Anderson propeled the University of Michigan men’s golf team to an 860 (-4) team total and a third-place finish today (Monday, Sept. 5) at the Island Resort Intercollegiate from the Sage Run Golf Course.
With an opening 71 (-1) from Anderson and an even-par 72 from Thomson, the Wolverines opened the fall season with a 291 (+3) total to position themselves third after the first 18 holes. Heading back out for the second 18, Thomson produced a 70 (-2), Anderson had a second straight 71 (-1) and junior Jude Kim used seven birdies to card a 68 (-4) and give U-M a 282 (-6) team total. With a 573 (-3) total through the first day of action, the Maize and Blue stayed in the third spot heading into the final round.
Getting off to a strong start, Michigan put itself in the hunt, with 71s (-1) from Thomson and sophomore Bavake Sihota and a 72 (E) from Anderson. Late round mistakes added up as the Wolverines repeated their third place finish from a year ago with an 860 (-4) opening tally — the third sub-par team finish in Zach Barlow era.
