COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team opened the 2022-23 season on Wednesday with two solid rounds at the Frederica Cup in St. Simons Island, Ga. The Buckeyes are currently in seventh place at 15-under par.
The format this week is play-6, count-5 and the Buckeyes carded rounds of 355-350 to post their 15-under total. Three Buckeyes are under-par through 36 holes as Maxwell Moldovan and Jackson Chandler shot matching rounds of 70-69 and sit at 5-under par. Moldovan played the eight par-5s on Thursday in 8-under par, making birdie on all eight holes.
Transfer Neal Shipley, who is making his Buckeye debut this week, opened with a 73 and then shot the round of the day with a 5-under 67. He made seven birdies in his second round and a total of 10 birdies in the two rounds.
Adam Wallin, fresh off his appearance last week at the World Amateur Team Championship in France, shot rounds of 71-73 and sits at even-par. JonErik Alford had rounds of 71-75 and redshirt-freshman Jacob Tarkany rebounded from an opening round 79 to card an even-par 72 in the afternoon.
The Buckeyes will start the third round off the 10th tee at 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning and will be paired with TCU.
