DURHAM – The Duke men’s golf team opens its 2022-23 season at the Duke University Golf Club this weekend, hosting the 12th annual Rod Myers Invitational.
“We’re excited to get the season started with such a special event honoring Rod Myers,” said head coach Jamie Green. “The team has been preparing well, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to compete against yet another talented field of teams and individuals at this year’s event.”
The three-round tournament is scheduled to be played across two days, with 36 holes of competition held on Friday and the final 18 on Saturday. A shotgun start at 9:15 begins play on Friday, with continuous play scheduled for the second round. On Saturday, tee times start at 7:35 a.m., continuing until the final group tees off at 9:57 a.m.
The Blue Devils are one of 14 teams in the field, joined by Alabama, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty, Loyola (Md.), Missouri, North Florida, Penn State, Princeton, UNCG, UNCW and Virginia Tech.
Duke’s lineup consists of juniors Ian Siebers, Jimmy Zheng, freshman William Love, and sophomores Kelly Chinn and Luke Sample. The Blue Devils also have Ethan Evans, John Peters, Cameron Martinez-Piedra, Daniel Choi and Daniel Uranga competing as individuals.
The Duke University Golf Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and is a 7,154-yard, par-72 layout. The event is open to the public, with free parking and admission. This is the 12th season of the Rod Myers Invitational, which honors the Blue Devils’ late head coach, who guided the program from 34 years from 1973 until his passing in 2007 after a battle with an acute form of leukemia. While at the helm of the Duke men’s golf program, Myers coached 16 All-Americas, nine Academic All-Americas, 24 All-ACC selections and three ACC individual champions. In 2007, the university named the golf training center after him and an endowed athletic scholarship was created in his honor.
