Michigan State Plays in the Gopher Invitational on Sunday


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team plays its second tournament of the season, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Gopher Invitational. The two-day tournament concludes on Monday.

Course:  Windsong Farm Golf Club
Live Scoring: Golfstat
Par/Yardage:  71 / 7,293
Format:  Stroke play, 54 holes, play five, count four
Schedule:  Sunday – Rounds 1 and 2 beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start
Monday: Round three with tee times starting at 8 a.m. off the first and 10th holes.

THE COURSE

Windsong Farm is consistently rated among Minnesota’s top golf courses, with additional national recognition as one of the top modern courses in the nation. Originally created by John Fought and Minnesota native Tom Lehman, the course’s breathtaking views and unmatched conditions contribute to the ultimate golfing experience.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Gopher Invitational is a familiar event for the Spartans as they’ll be making their ninth appearance at the event. The team finished in third place last year.

LAST WEEK

Michigan State’s men’s golf team shot an even-par 280 in the final round of play and finished tied for eighth place among 15 teams at the Fighting Irish Classic last weekend. The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 4-over par 844 and tied for eighth. Senior Drew Hackett, a transfer from UNC Wilmington playing in his first event for the Spartans, was the team’s top finisher, tying for 26th place at even-par 210. Fifth year Troy Taylor II and sophomore Ashton McCulloch tied for 32nd place with scores of 1-over par 211. Junior August Meekhof, who had been the top finisher for MSU in the first two rounds, shot a 3-ovper 73 in the final 18 and finished tied for 37th place at 2-over par 212.
