MADISON, Wis. – The Purdue men’s golf team struggled on a wet day at University Ridge Golf Club, sloshing its way to a 6-over par 294 to sit in a 13th-place tie after 18 holes at the Badger Invitational.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after Monday’s first round was rained out. The second and final round will be held Tuesday.
Texas A&M leads the field at 9-under par 279, three shots ahead of Western Carolina. The Boilermakers are 13th, but just six shots out of seventh place.
The Boilermakers are playing short-handed as All-America candidate Herman Sekne is missing this tournament with an injury.
Nels Surtani led the way for the Boilermakers, shooting an even-par 72 to sit in a 24th-place tie after 18 holes. Andrew Farraye, Nick Dentino and Peyton Snoeberger each shot 2-over par 74, while Luke Prall shot a 6-over par 78.
Meanwhile, in the individual tournament played at Pleasant View Golf Course, Kentaro Nanayama rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors at 1-under par 141 (71-70). He tied with Texas A&M’s Dallas Hankamer after 36 holes to force a one-hole playoff.
Purdue will be paired with UAB and Northern Illinois and will tee off hole No. 10, on Tuesday, beginning at 9:45 a.m. ET.
