LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The Alabama women’s golf team finished Tuesday’s second round at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate with a 10-shot improvement from day one, however, dropped a spot into 11th place overall with a team total of 596 (303-293).
Senior Sarah Edwards led the team after carding an even par 72 in round two, including an eagle on the 345-yard par 4 10th hole – her first hole of the day. Benedetta Moresco continues to pace Alabama after 36 holes played with of 4-over par 148 (74-74) to place her in a tie for 31st overall. She is six spots ahead of Edwards, who will enter Wednesday’s final round in a tie for 37th position.
The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 17 in the nation, is one of 10 out of the 12 teams that entered the event ranked among top 25, according to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason poll.
The Highlights
- Edwards’ round began with an eagle on her first hole of the day (No. 10) followed by a birdie on the 410-yard par 4 11th hole
- Combined with birdies in three of her final four holes during Monday’s opening round, she combined to shoot six-under over that six-hole stretch
- Freshman Kynadie Adams is in a tie for 44th with a 150 (76-74), one shot ahead of classmate Taylor Kehoe who is in a tie for 49th with a 151 (76-75)
- Isabella van der Biest had the biggest improvement from round one to round two by any UA golfer, bettering her first round 79 by six shots to close the second round at 1-over par 73. She is in a tie for 52nd overall with a 152.
The Field
- No. 10 Virginia (-9, 567) remains in the lead with a six-shot lead over No. 2 Wake Forest (-3, 573)
- No. 4 South Carolina (-2, 574) is one shot back, followed by T-No. 20 Michigan (E, 576) and tournament host and T-No. 20 Duke (E, 576) which are tied for fourth entering the final round of play
- In addition to the aforementioned top-25 teams, other ranked teams competing in the field include No. 7 Arizona State, No. 13 Auburn, No. 14 Florida and No. 16 Texas
