MADISON, Wis. – The Purdue men’s golf team surged in the final round of the rain-shortened Badger Invitational, jumping eight spots to finish fifth in its season-opening event.
The event was shortened to 36 holes as heavy rains saturated the course Sunday, wiping out the first round.
The Boilermakers knocked off 15 shots from the first to second round, posting the second-best score of Tuesday’s final round. Texas A&M won the event at 20-under par 556 and was followed by Wisconsin (567), Illinois State (569) and Nebraska (571). Purdue posted wins over national powers Ole Miss and South Carolina and South Florida.
Leading the Boilermakers was senior Nick Dentino, who finished tied for 16th at 2-under par 142 (74-68). He posted a 4-under par 68 on Tuesday with four birdies, 14 pars and no bogeys. The 68 was his lowest tournament round since Sept. 2019 (freshman year) and his 16th-place finish was his highest placing since finishing T-16th at the Gopher Invitational in Sept. 2019.
Nels Surtani posted his third career top-20 finish (in just five events) with a 1-under par 143 (72-71), good for a 20th-place tie. Surtani had three birdies and two bogeys on his round, recording his sixth career round of even-par or better.
Andrew Farraye had a strong day, moving up 16 spots to finish tied for 29th at even-par 144 (74-70). Farraye was 1-over par through 10 holes, but birdied three of his last eight holes for his final-round 70.
Luke Prall (78-70=148) and Peyton Snoeberger (74-74=148) finished tied for 53rd at 4-over par. Prall birdied his final two holes for a 2-under par round of 70.
Purdue will be in action next in the Inverness Intercollegiate held at the Inverness Club in Toledo on Sept. 26-27.
