INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Rutgers men’s golf finished play at the Gopher Invitational on Monday at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.
In contention the entire, junior Rhett finished tied for 4th to lead the Scarlet Knights in their first tournament of the 2022 fall campaign. Sellers finished with a team best and shot a 207 (-6).
Senior captain Xavier put up an impressive performance to start the year and Marcoux finished tied for 10th. He was just one shot behind Sellers with a finish of 208 (-5). Fellow senior captain Luke Wells finished tied for 39th with a final score of 214 (+1).
RU closed out play in round 1 in first place in the group of 15 teams. Sellers and Marcoux led the way on day one as both finished tied for first place with a score of (-8). Both played bogey-free golf throughout the first round.
Both Sellers and Marcoux reacted to their career-rounds on Sunday with head coach Rob Shutte:
Weston Jones finished tied for 59th with his performance of (+5) and freshman James Newton celebrated his birthday in Minnesota with his first career start for RU. Newton finished with a score of 219 (+6).

Rutgers returns to action Sept. 19-20 at the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
