Alabama Closes Play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate


LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The Alabama women’s golf team finished play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Wednesday afternoon, closing the three-day, 54-hole event in 11th place with a team total of 892 (303-293-296). The Crimson Tide entered the tournament ranked No. 17 in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason poll, one of 10 in the 12-team field ranked among the nation’s top 20.

Benedetta Moresco paced the Crimson Tide throughout the event as she tied for 26th overall with a 4-over par 220 (74-74-72). It marked her 12th top-30 tournament finish over her last 13 tournaments competing for the Tide. Sarah Edwards tied for 35th overall and finished two strokes back of Moresco with a 6-over 222 (77-72-73)

No. 2 Wake Forest began the day six shots back Virginia for the team lead but carded a 3-under par 285 to come from behind and claim the team title with a team total of 6-under 858. No. 16 Texas finished runner-up (-2, 862) followed by No. 10 Virginia (-1, 863), No. 4 South Carolina (+1, 865) and No. 20 Duke (+1, 865) to round out the top five teams.

The Highlights

  • Moresco’s stretch of top-30 results began at the same event last year when she finished tied for 13th at the 2021 ANNIKA Intercollegiate

    • The only tournament in which Moresco did not finish among the top 30 individuals a year ago was at the 2022 NCAA Championships

  • Edwards’ finish was the third-best result of her career with only The Ally (T20th) and the Moon Golf Invitational (T26th) bettering this week’s efforts
  • Freshmen Kynadie Adams and Taylor Kehoe each made their collegiate debut for the Tide.

    • Adams tied for 47th after she carded a 10-over 226 (76-74-76) while Kehoe ended at 12-over par 228 (76-75-77)

  • Isabella van der Biest finished in between the two freshmen in 49th position with a 54-hole total of 11-over par 227 (79-73-75)

Fun Facts

  • Moresco and Edwards tied for the third-most pars with 37 across the 54 holes played
  • Adams finished with a team-leading four birdies on the day, including three over the final five holes of her front nine to result in a 1-under 35 at the turn

    • Her 10 birdies across the three rounds led the team and matched the sixth-most by individuals in the field

  • Edwards finished with nine birdies…
