Terrapins to Travel to Knoxville for 25th Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship

KNOXVILLE, TN – The Maryland women’s golf team will travel to Knoxville this week to play in the 25th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Over the two-day tournament (Sept. 19-20), Maryland will play the par-71 Cherokee Country Club designed by Donald Ross. The tournament will consist of 54-holes of play (36-holes Monday, 18-holes Tuesday) beginning at 8:30 a.m. on day one and 8:45 a.m. on day two in a shotgun format. Yardages consist of 5,930 (round one) and 5,884 (round two).

The Terrapins will be led by junior Patricie Mackova, freshman Nicha Kanpai, freshman AnPhi Le, senior Maria Vittoria Corbi, and sophomore Panassaya Somchit.

“We had a great week of preparation for the Tennessee Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, and I think the team is ready to back up our runner-up finish last week with another great performance,” said head coach Kelly Hovland. “The field has some of the best-ranked teams in the country, so we will need to put together three solid rounds to put ourselves back in contention. I am looking forward to seeing them continue to learn from each experience and compete at the highest level.”

Last Time Out

Last season, Maryland finished in eighth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. Mackova finished in eighth, Somchit in ninth, and Corbi in 63rd.
