East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team continues its 2022-23 season on Monday, beginning play in the 25th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.
The tournament will be a two-day, 54-hole event, with the opening two rounds scheduled for Monday, followed by round three on Tuesday.

The Spartans finished with a three-round total of even-par 852 … Sophomore Katie Lu was the top finisher for the Spartans, tying for 24th place at 1-under par 212 … She closed with a 1-over par 72 in the final round … Lu had the second-best round of the tournament in Monday’s second round, firing a 4-under par 67 … Sophomore Brooke Biermann shot a 3-over par 74 on Tuesday and tied for 26th place at even-par 213 … Fifth year Valery Plata shot a 1-under par 70 in the final round and tied for 31st place at 1-over par 214 … Junior Valentina Rossi tied for 34th place at 2-over par 215, carding a 1-over par 72 in the final round … Junior Leila Raines, who was an individual qualifier for the NCAA Championships last year, will make her season debut … Sophomore Shannon Kennedy will compete as an individual.
COUGAR CLASSIC HISTORY
This will be the eighth appearance in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic for the Spartans, but the program’s first since 2007. MSU’s best finish in the event was a sixth place showing in 2005, with Sara Brown tying for 11th place to lead the individuals.
