SALT LAKE CITY – Javier Barcos secured a spot in the top 20, Brandon Robison shot 1-under and Jesper von Reedtz knocked in a hole-in-one on Tuesday to highlight the final day of the Husky Invitational for the University of Utah men’s golf team.
“Today’s round was more of the same,” said coach Garrett Clegg. “Jesper’s hole-in-one was awesome and that was for sure the highlight of the trip. Overall, it was a good week of learning and a lot more of the same mistakes. We need to learn from our mistakes and improve.”
Barcos ended the event with Utah’s top score, shooting a 5-over 221 over 54 holes. The junior from Spain was at even par through nine holes and collected four total birdies on Tuesday before finishing 4-over and tying for 20th. Barcos has been the low man on the leaderboard for Utah in both of their tournaments so far in the fall.
The Utes’ lowest score during the final round belonged to Robison, who was 1-under for the day and jumped 15 spots up the leaderboard to grab a share of 39th. Robison began the day with three early bogeys, but was razor sharp after that, shooting 3-under, including an eagle on the Par-5 14th. He closed the day with four straight pars and was 9-over for the tournament.
Despite a difficult final 18 holes, Braxton Watts finished two strokes ahead of Robison at 7-over and earned a share of 24th. Hunter Howe tied Barcos with a team-high four birdies on Tuesday, including three on the back nine and entered the clubhouse 2-over for the day and 12-over for the event, tying him for 49th.
For von Reedtz, the hole-in-one was the first of his Utah career and the first by a Ute since Blake Tomlinson recorded a hole-in-one at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships in April. The junior from Sweden was 3-over for the day and tied for 51st. Utah’s team score was 8-over on Tuesday, 23-over for the tourney and they moved up one spot to take eighth.
In the Husky Individual Invitational, Martín León began his day with a birdie and was 3-over through the final round, allowing him to end the competition in 16th. Davis Johnson piled up 13 pars and took home a share of 26th, while Tanner Telford placed 31st.
“We finished eighth,” said Clegg, “but we were not all that far from first. The reality is we just need to clean things up and we will as the year goes on. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather…
