Women’s Golf Set to Continue Fall Season at Mason Rudolph Championship


STARKVILLE- The Mississippi State women’s golf team makes their return to the greens of Franklin, Tenn. this weekend to compete in the Mason Rudolph Championship for the second consecutive year. The Bulldogs will compete in the 54-hole event Friday-Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
 
The No. 31 ranked Bulldogs are competing in the Mason Rudolph Championship for the third time overall in the event’s 22-year history. Last year, the Maroon and White carded the second-lowest round in school history in round three, carding 13-under par (275) on the final 18 holes to finish tied for 11th.
 
This weekend will feature host university Vanderbilt along with No. 6 Ohio State, No. 18 LSU, No. 26 Georgia, No. 30 Auburn, No. 45 Denver, No. 50 Kentucky, Arizona, Alabama, Chattanooga, Georgia Southern, Middle Tennessee State and Washington.
 
Mississippi State will roll with the same five from the season opener. Reigning SEC Freshman of the Year Julia Lopez Ramirez will tee off first for MSU. Last time out, Lopez Ramirez secured her eighth top-five finish at the Carmel Cup, tying for fourth.
 
Fifth-year senior Hannah Levi will shoot second. In the fall opener, Levi finished strong on the back nine of the Carmel Cup to secure her ninth career top-20 finish, tying for 18th.
 
Senior Abbey Daniel is third. In the Carmel Cup, Daniel parred 38 holes throughout the 54-hole tournament to begin the season with a top-15 finish, tying for 13th.
 
Freshman Izzy Pellot and senior Ashley Gilliam round out the lineup State. Pellot and Gilliam both finished tied for 29th at the Carmel Cup to begin the season. Pellot tied Daniel for the third most pars of the Carmel Cup with 38.
 
The Bulldogs will be paired with Denver and Vanderbilt for Friday’s first round, teeing off in 10-minute intervals between 9:10-10:00 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
 
Mississippi State head coach Charlie Ewing will be making the return to his alma mater this weekend for the second time as the leader of the Bulldogs. Ewing was a four-year letter winner at Vanderbilt from 2010-14, earning All-SEC Academic Honor Roll honors throughout his collegiate career.
