Bruins to Play at Inaugural Folds of Honor Collegiate


LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s golf team competes at the inaugural Folds of Honor Collegiate hosted by American Dunes Golf Course in Grand Haven, Mich., beginning Monday, Sept. 26 and ending Wednesday, Sept. 28. The three-day, 54-holes stroke plat event has a course yardage of 7,213 and plays a par 72.
 
The 18-team field consists of two top-25 teams in No. 18 Illinois and No. 23 Florida State.
 
Freshman Lincoln Melcher will be making his collegiate debut at the Folds of Honor Collegiate.
 
UCLA Lineup (1-5): Pablo Ereño, Evan Chien, Kyle An, Mason Greene and Lincoln Melcher.
 
Field: Air Force, Arizona, Army, Central Michigan, Clemson, Eastern Michigan, Florida State, Grand Valley State, Illinois, Kansas, Liberty, Michigan State, Navy, N.C. State, Oregon State, Texas Southern, UCLA and Virginia Union.
 
Last Time Out
The Bruins placed 17th out of 18 teams at their season-opening tournament, the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, with a score of +8, 848.
 
Sophomore Evan Chien was UCLA’s top golfer, tying for 38th at 2-under (68-69-72) for the first under-par tournament finish of his collegiate career. Chien’s first round 68 and second round 69 were also his first under par rounds as a Bruin. Chien’s previous career-low was an even-par 71 in the second round of the 2022 Pac-12 Championships.
 
Pablo Ereño tied for 51st at even par for the tournament. The 2021-22 Pac-12 All-Freshman Team selection shot a 2-under 68 in his final round at Mirabel Golf Club.
 
Senior Mason Greene was 2-under and tied for 41st after his first two rounds (68-70) before a 6-over 76 in his third round set him back. Greene, the lone senior on the roster, earned his spot in the lineup after competing in UCLA’s last three events of the 2021-22 season.
 
Under New Leadership
Armen Kirakossian was named the sixth head coach of the UCLA men’s golf program on June 13 earlier this year.
 
Kirakossian comes to UCLA from Arizona State University, where he spent the last five seasons, two as associate head coach and three as an assistant. He helped lead the Sun Devils to four consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2021-22 and a third-place…
