Bulldogs Use Valiant Final Round to Capture Mason Rudolph Championship

Franklin, Tenn. – Heading into Sunday’s final round of the Mason Rudolph, the Bulldogs sat on the outside looking in as they faced a six-shot deficit in third-place. Through the first two rounds at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, State never wavered from their third-place perch. Led by a complete team effort down the stretch, the Bulldogs rallied to capture the 2022 Mason Rudolph Championship with a 19-under par (845) performance.

As a team, the Bulldogs recorded the fourth lowest third round in MSU history (7-under par). 19-under par is the fifth lowest tally after 54 holes as a team in school history.  The Bulldogs defeated a loaded field that featured six ranked teams, including two in the top-25 and No. 6 ranked Ohio State

The No. 31 ranked Bulldogs used strong individual performances when they needed it the most from up and down the scorecard. Julia Lopez Ramirez and Izzy Pellot combined to play the last five holes at 6-under par to bring State to 7-under for the day at 19-under for the tournament, which built separation that resulted in a four-stroke win over Arizona and five strokes over No. Vanderbilt.

Lopez Ramirez was just 1-under on the day through 13 holes but played the last five holes at 5-under to record her 11th Round in the 60s in the Maroon and White (4-under, 66). The reigning SEC Freshman of the Year eagled the par-5 14th hole and after a par on the 15th, finished her round with three consecutive birdies to secure her ninth top-five finish, tying for fourth.

Hannah Levi was essential for State throughout the Mason Rudolph Championship. Through three consecutive rounds of par or better golf, Levi captured her fifth top-5 finish, joining Lopez Ramirez for fourth. Throughout the event, Levi rolled in 13 birdies (second-most).

Competing in her second career event, Izzy Pellot carded an even par (72) final round to finish tied for 11th with a 3-under par performance. Going back to the last tournament, Pellot has now recorded five straight rounds of par or better golf. Pellot added 14 pars on Sunday to finish with 43 pars (second most).

Ashley Gilliam added 16 pars in the final round, including 11 straight from holes 8-18 to finish with an even-par (72). Gilliam recorded her seventh top-20 finish as a Bulldog while sinking the most pars of the event with 44.
