DURHAM – Following a tied for fourth-place finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate to open the regular season, the Duke women’s golf team has been tabbed No. 10 in the latest Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Mizuno Coaches Poll.
Duke has been ranked in the top 10 in each of the last 24 years under the direction of head coach Dan Brooks.
Paced by junior Phoebe Brinker, who carded a 6-under, 210, at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn., the Blue Devils turned in a 54-hole ledger of 865 over three days earlier this month. Senior Erica Shepherd was tied for 12th and freshman Andie Smith made her collegiate debut with a tied for 29th placement.
Stanford received 19 first-place votes and was No. 1, followed by Wake Forest, Virginia, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, Mississippi and Duke in the top 10.
Duke will next travel to Highland Park, Ill., to compete in the Windy City Collegiate Classic Oct. 3-4 at the Exmoor Country Club.
