Now that the 2022 Presidents Cup is in the rearview mirror, the PGA Tour’s 2022-23 season resumes in Jackson, Mississippi, at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
It’s the first of eight full events remaining on the Tour’s calendar for the 2022 year. Sam Burns is the defending champion, and he’s in the field after making his international competition debut for the United States in Charlotte, North Carolina. At No. 12 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Burns is the highest-ranked player in the field. Burns is 23rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Burns played in all five sessions but didn’t win a match, going 0-3-2. From the International squad, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Sebastian Munoz are also in the field at The Country Club of Jackson.
The city of Jackson has been dealing with severe drinking water issues caused by flooding, though the course was unaffected by the city’s water crisis since it operates its own self-sufficient system with water from a nearby aquifer.

“We’re four weeks out,” Sanderson Farms Championship executive director Steve Jent said earlier this month. “That’s our advantage, right? So we still have a month before the tournament so the city can get some things fixed.”
Munoz, who went 2-0-1 at the Presidents Cup in his international competition debut, won the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2019 in a playoff, beating Sungjae Im. Cameron Champ, who’s in the field, won in 2018.
There’s 144 players teeing it up this week. Next week, the Tour heads to Las Vegas for the Shriners Children’s Open.
