COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Maxwell Moldovan perhaps didn’t have his best round on Tuesday, but it was still good enough to finish third in a very strong field at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Uniontown, Ohio native finished the 54-hole event at 2-under par to lead the Buckeyes to a seventh-place finish in the 16-team field.
Moldovan carded a final round 74 after opening with rounds of 68-69 on Monday. Four of his six rounds this season have been in the 60s, giving him 28 for his career. That is the most for any OSU golfer dating back to 1978. This was his seventh Top 5 finish of his career and 12th event finishing under-par.
Fellow junior Adam Wallin made a team-high four birdies in the cool, breezy and rainy conditions on Tuesday en route to posting a 2-over 73. He posted a 73 in all three rounds and finished in a tie for 20th at 6-over par.
JonErik Alford rebounded from a tough afternoon round on Monday to post the round of the day for the Buckeyes. He made three birdies and carded a 1-over 72.
Freshman Topher Reed, who was playing as an individual and making his Buckeye debut this week, posted three solid rounds of 74-73-74 and finished in a tie for 33rd at 8-over par. Fellow freshman Joe Wilson IV and graduate Neal Shipley each finished in a tie for 52nd at 12-over par. Wilson IV carded a 74 on Tuesday and Shipley came in with a 75.
The Buckeyes will be right back to action next week as they travel to the Maidstone Club in the East Hamptons for the Hamptons Invitational. The 54-hole event will start on Monday, Oct. 3 and will conclude with the final round on Oct. 4.
