Purdue Records Strong Round to Move Up at Inverness

TOLEDO, Ohio – After struggling in round two, the Purdue men’s golf team posted the third-best team round of the day and moved up three spots to finish eighth at the competitive Inverness Intercollegiate held at The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

The Boilermakers recorded a 1-over par 285 to finish the 54-hole event at 27-over par 879 (291-303-285). Texas Tech won the event at 1-over par 853, six shots ahead of Georgia Tech. Purdue finished eighth behind Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Virginia, Notre Dame, Louisville and Ohio State and defeated strong programs in East Tennessee State and SMU.

Leading the Boilermakers was junior Herman Sekne, who was playing in his first tournament of the year, finishing T-9th at 2-over par 215 (72-74-69). His final-round, 2-under par 69 was his 12th career round in the 60s and his showing marked his seventh career top-10 finish in 18 career events.

Senior Nick Dentino continued his strong start to the season with his second consecutive top-20 finish, shooting a 5-over par 218 (70-77-71), good for a 15th-place tie. Dentino has recorded back-to-back top-20 finishes for the first time since his first two events as a freshman in Sept. 2019.

Nels Surtani surged in the final round, moving up 32 spots to 42nd after a 3-under par 68, and a final tally of 10-over par 223 (78-77-68). His 68 was the second-best round of the day and one of five players to shoot in the 60s (including Sekne).

Luke Prall finished tied for 52nd at 12-over par 225 (72-76-77), while Andrew Farraye was tied for 69th at 17-over par 230 (77-76-77).

Playing as an individual, Peyton Snoeberger placed tied for 12th at 4-over par 216 (70-75-71).

Purdue will have a quick turnaround, competing in the Marquette Intercollegiate at the Milwaukee Country Club on Oct. 2 and 3.
