Cal Men, Women Team Up Against Stanford For First Time Since 2019
BERKELEY – The California men’s golf team will join the Golden Bear women’s squad to take on Stanford in the Big Match on Thursday afternoon.
The match play event is back after a two-year, COVID-19-induced hiatus in which six mixed pairs go head-to-head to determine a winner between the rivals. Cal won the inaugural event in 2018 and repeated as the champion in 2019. The event will take place at the Menlo Country Club in Woodside.
Three Bears – Tony Chen, Daniel Heo and Nathan Wang – will make their season debuts on Thursday.
Cal finished 10th in the season-opening Fighting Irish Classic on Sept. 4-5 in South Bend, Indiana, with junior Sampson Zheng (-4, 206) tying for 13th individually to lead the way.
