COLUMBIA, Mo. – After entering the day down four strokes, the University of Missouri women’s golf team mounted a huge comeback to claim the 2022 Johnie Imes Invitational Title.
Mizzou finished the tournament with a total score of 877 (+13) to win the tournament by a 11-stroke lead. The Tigers’ were led by Emily Staples who finished third overall, after shooting a 71 (-1) on the first and final day of the tournament. Staples performance was highlighted by a birdie in four of the five holes 8-12. Her overall score of 217 (+1) was her second-best career 54-hole performance and the first top-ten finish of her career.
Sophia Yoemans and Melanie Walker took fourth and ninth, respectively, to round out a total of three MU players in the top-10. Yoemans shot a 72 in the final round for a total score of 218 (+1), while Walker finished 220 (+4). Yoemans tie for fourth place was the first top-5 finish of her career.
Addie Dobson and Sky Sload rounded out the team counters for Mizzou. Dobson finished 17th in her collegiate debut, scoring 224 (+8), while Sload finished 225 (+9).
Missouri’s golfers were rounded out by four individuals – Jade Zamora who tied for 31st at 229 (+13), Brianne Bolden took 52nd at 233 (+17), Julie Huggins shot 236 (+20) and Olivia Sowers who finished the tournament at 237 (+5).
The Tigers take the Johnie Imes Invitational for the eighth-consecutive year and open their season with a tournament victory.
Mizzou’s season continues Oct. 17-18 when they compete at The Ally in West Point, Miss.
