ROSEMONT, Ill. – Isabel Sy was selected as the Big Ten Conference Women’s Co-Golfer of the Week after turning in the best individual performances of her career, the conference announced on Thursday.
She shares the honors with Minnesota’s Luisamariana Mesones.
The junior posted a career-best fifth-place finish (three shots off the lead) at the Schooner Fall Classic Sept. 24-26 in Norman, Okla., carding a seven-under-par 203 (67-67-69). She tied her career-low round with matching scores of 67 in the opening two rounds of the tournament and tallied 11 birdies and posted 50 of 54 holes at or below par en route to finishing 3.68 strokes below the tournament average.
The San Gabriel, Calif., native, posted the lowest 54-hole total of her career and also carded three-straight rounds under 70 for the first time in her career as well.
This marks the first-career weekly honor for Sy and the first weekly honor for the Illini since Crystal Wang was named golfer of the week on Feb, 23, 2022.
Sy and the Illini next host the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah, held at Medinah Country Club, and played on Course No. 2, on Oct. 10-11.
