Brennan Looks to Defend Title at Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas  – The nationally-ranked Wake Forest men’s golf team is scheduled to begin their third event of the season on Monday at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

The reigning ACC Champions and NCAA Regional Champions will be led by junior Michael Brennan who claimed his fourth career individual victory at this event a year ago, winning by six strokes over an elite field.

This marked the fourth time in Brennan’s career he has captured an individual title putting him with names such as Will Zalatoris and Bill Andrade to have four titles to their name at Wake Forest. Only six Demon Deacons have more than four titles in their collegiate career: Bill Haas (10), Gary Hallberg (9), Curtis Strange (8), Lanny Wadkins (5), Jay Haas (5) and Cameron Young (5).

Additionally, this was the second time in his career Brennan has won back-to-back events (2021 Old Town Club Collegiate) after winning at Kiawah and Pinehurst as a freshman.

The Demon Deacons finished tied for third on the leaderboard as a team at the 2021 event in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wake Forest is coming off a strong finish at the Old Town Club Collegiate where they nearly had a historic come-from-behind win in the final round of the tournament.

Freshman Andrew McLauchlan continues to have an impressive start to his career at Wake Forest. McLauchlan was one of just six golfers in the Old Town Club Collegiate field to card a round of par or better in each of his three rounds.

After tying for sixth at the Maui Jim Individual earlier in September, McLauchlan bested that effort this week, claiming a tie for fourth which was the highest by any Wake Forest player.

Marshall Meisel also claimed his highest finish of his career with a tied for seventh finish at Old Town Club Collegiate, turning in a 66 (-4) in the final round.

Tomorrow’s first round is scheduled for a 9:15 a.m. (ET) start as Wake Forest tees off between holes No. 14-18. The Demon Deacons will be paired with USC, Georgia and Texas on the opening day of play.
