No.11 Women’s Golf Heads to Arkansas for Blessings Collegiate Invitational


STARKVILLE – The 11th-ranked Mississippi State women’s golf squad is set to return to the course for the third annual Blessings Collegiate Invitational. The three-day event will begin Monday, Oct. 3, and run through Wednesday, Oct. 5 with the GOLF Channel handling television coverage from 3:30 to 6:30 pm each evening.
 
The Blessings Collegiate Invitational is a very unique event that features a mixed field of men’s and women’s teams. The field will feature 11 men’s and women’s programs from across the nation. In addition to the traditional team and individual titles, a combined champion and a combined, best-ball champion will be crowned on Oct.5. It is the first and only collegiate tournament to feature men’s and women’s programs playing the same course at the same time with all five players from each school playing in the same groups.
 
On the women’s side, the loaded field with seven of the 11 teams being ranked in the top 50 in the Golfweek rankings. No. 11 State will be joined by No. 7 Ole Miss, No.8 Clemson, No. 14 UCF, No. 15 Arkansas and No. 49 UCLA. Unranked California, Kansas, Louisville and UNLV round out the field.
 
Mississippi State will roll with the same lineup that won the Mason Rudolph Championship this last weekend.
 
Ashley Gilliam is in the No.1 spot. Last time out, Gilliam recorded her seventh top-20 finish as a Bulldog while sinking the most pars of the event with 44.
 
Pellot will take the second spot. The freshman is set to appear in her third career event for the Bulldogs. In the Mason Rudolph Championship, Pellot carded an even par (72) final round to finish tied for 11th with a 3-under par performance.
 
Abbey Daniel will shoot third. In her last event, finished tied for 29th with a 4-over (76) final round. Daniel carded eight pars in the final round while adding three birdies.
 
Hannah Levi sits in the four-hole for this event. Levi was essential for State throughout the Mason Rudolph Championship. Through three consecutive rounds of par or better golf, Levi captured her fifth top-5 finish, joining Lopez Ramirez for fourth. Throughout the event, Levi rolled in 13 birdies (second-most).
