FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – No. 17 Mississippi State men’s golf finished fifth at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Wednesday. The unique event brings the men’s and women’s teams together on the same course. State’s William Wann and Julia Lopez Ramirez won the events men’s and women’s combined best ball event.
“I’m really proud of how we competed this week,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “We got off to a rough start which made the day difficult for us. We showed a lot of resiliency on our last few holes. We need to do a better job of handling adversity and being able to fight through it. This is a special group that I believe will keep learning and getting better. This is a special group that I believe will keep learning and getting better. I can’t say enough about Ruan Pretorius this week. He played some really good golf the entire week, but especially today when the team needed someone to step up.”
Pretorius tied for seventh at 1-under. He shot par or better in all three rounds, making at least four birdies each day. Wann and Ford Clegg both tied for 25th with Arkansas’ Matthew Griggs.
Garrett Endicott, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday, finished his final round in a three-way tie for 30th. Hunter Logan tied for 49th, shooting 234 total for the event.
The Bulldogs will travel to South Carolina at the end of the month for the Daniel Island Intercollegiate in Charleston, South Carolina.
