FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Carmen Griffiths of the University of Louisville women’s golf team finished third overall in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational this week, carding a 2-over-par 218 (77+72+69).
The women’s team finished 9th overall with scores of 323+305+292=920 (56-over-par).
Griffiths finish marks the second consecutive time she has placed in third, with a third place finish in the Schooner Classic last week as well.
“It’s a great feeling,” said Griffiths. “I played well over the summer and in Oklahoma last week so it’s nice for it to continue onto the next tournament, especially on such a difficult course with such a strong competitive field.”
Overall, only two individuals carded scores under par with the first place finish from Mississippi State’s Julia Lopez Ramirez (8-under-par 208).
However, Griffiths was able to improve by 8 strokes from the first round to the final round, moving her up from a tie for 12th to a tie for third.
“Blessings is always a great tournament and a big challenge so it was great to see improvements in all areas of my game,” said Griffiths. “My third round was very consistent and I had a lot of opportunities which I managed to take advantage of. I was very pleased to shoot under par on such a tough golf course.”
Graduate student Lauren Thibodeau really stepped things up after round one where she shot 10-over-par 82. She was 1-under-par in the final round, moving her up ten spots on the individual leaderboard. With a beautiful eagle shot on hole six (par 4), she was able to match her season-best single round score of 71.
Rylee Suttor finished in a tie for 38th with Thibodeau, shooting 14-over-par 232. Mairead Martin improved to 48th overall (+20) and Gabbi Bentancourt finished 57th (+30).
The Cardinals will continue their fall schedule on Oct. 17 when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play in the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Classic.
