WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The Maryland men’s golf team is returning to the links for its third tournament of the season in the second-annual Purdue Fall Invitational this week, hosted by Big Ten conference foe Purdue University.
Over the two-day tournament (Oct. 10-11), the Terrapins will play the par-72 – 7,465-yard at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex: Kampen Course designed by the late Pete Dye. The layout has been host to numerous events, including the NCAA Men’s Championships (2008), Big Ten Men’s Championship (2011), and the Indiana Open (2020). It will be the host of the NCAA Regionals in 2024.
The tournament will consist of 54-holes of play (36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday) in a shotgun format. Tee times have yet to be announced.
The squad will be led by senior Dillon Brown of Halifax, Mass., senior Will Celiberti of Ridgewood, N.J., senior Will Koras of Lutherville, Md., freshman Ronnie Kim of Olney, Md., and rounding out the Terps’ lineup will be sophomore Florian Huerlimann of Heidelberg, Germany.
“This week will be another opportunity to test ourselves against some of the best competition in the country,” said head coach John Phillips. “Purdue will be hosting NCAA Regionals next year, so many of the top teams in the nation are playing to get a preview of the golf course. We are looking forward to the test and hope to build on what we learned at TPC Potomac.”
Opponents from the Big Ten Conference include host Purdue, Indiana, Nebraska, and Iowa.
Other participants in the invitational include Tennessee, LSU, Little Rock, Illinois State, Memphis, Louisiana Tech, VCU, Ball State, Central Arkansas, and Eastern Michigan (In order of national ranking as of Sept. 30, 2022).
